HUSSEIN ZAHAWY

HUSSEIN ZAHAWY (Iran)
Music has determined the life of Hussein Zahawy since early childhood. At the age of five, he played the Daf, a Kurdish frame drum, for the first time and by the age of thirteen he performed with the first national radio and television orchestra of Kurdish music in Europe.
Hussein’s work with drums and percussion instruments shows musical influences from around the world, for example from Turkey, India and the Arab region. He already performed at world music festivals such as WOMAD (UK & Canary Islands), WOMAX (Netherlands) or the World Sacred Music Festival (Morocco & Spain).
Zahawy Hussein, born in 1980, spent his early childhood with his Kurdish family in Iran. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Great Britain. He studied music, English, English literature, and ethnomusicology in London.
