HELMUT WITTMANN | STORYTELLER
HELMUT WITTMANN (Austria)
Helmut Wittmann is the person behind the Legen-dary Hour, which is also hyphenated in the German title. (Sagen-haft) This monthly broadcast hour on local radio in Upper Austria and Salzburg recounts local fables and folk tales, as well as legends from around the world. Wittmann finds fairytales inspiring because these ancient tales still have so much to tell us and continue to provide help and support in making us better human beings. Lately, Wittman also started a bilingual program where he performs with international storytellers.
Helmut Wittmann was awarded the German Folk Storytelling Prize in 2003 at the Congress of the European Storytellers Society in Potsdam, and the writer’s prize in 2008 for his bilingual storytelling program at Lesetopia, Austria’s largest literacy event.
